Veterans Day 2023

Friday, November 10th: We will Rally at the Applegate Store & Café at 11:00 am. The Rally Point and the Applegate Store & Café address is 15095 OR-238, Jacksonville, OR 97530. Space at the Store is limited for larger groups, so please park close together after filling up and parking. Please note there are no fuel pumps at the Applegate Store & Café. Make sure you fill up in Grants Pass or Medford, depending on where you are coming from, before heading to the Rally Point. The movement to camp will leave the Store around noon. The route to camp is a maintained gravel road with a light washboard and moderate rocky terrain. Lunch is on your own, so come prepared to have lunch on the go. We will camp at Cook and Green in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest at 41.99541, -123.16048. It will take about 3 Hours once we leave the Rally Point to make it to camp, depending on our pace and how often we need to stop. Once we arrive at camp, guests are free to pick a spot and set up their tents. We will provide dinner on the first night: Spaghetti (meat & veggie options) and French Bread. After dinner, we will celebrate our Marine Corps Birthday with a ceremonial cake-cutting tradition. Saturday, November 11th: Team Overland will serve Pancake Bar and Sausage between 8:00 - 9:00 am. After breakfast, there will be an opportunity to join an out-and-back day trip to explore the area. The route for the day trip is TBD, but it will likely head toward Wagner Mountain. Guests are free to join the guided day trip or hang back and relax at camp. Once the day trip returns, we will fire up the grill and cook Tri-Tip and Veggie Kabobs. Again, please inform us if any dietary or other restrictions would prohibit you or a member of your group from consuming these menu options.

Sunday, November 12th: Team Overland will serve a light muffin and coffee breakfast between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. We will begin breaking camp and leave by 11:00 a.m. Jacksonville Oregon. Team Overland subscribes to the "Leave no Trace" principles and expects all guests to comply by leaving the area trash-free. The trail from Cook and Green is right next to the highway, and it only takes about 1 hour to Jacksonville, Oregon. Some of the locals in the group can peel off and head home at their own pace, but a guide will bring the trip to regroup at the Rays Food Place in Jacksonville, OR at 401 N 5th St, Jacksonville, OR 97530, around 12:00 on Sunday, November 12th. This will be an excellent chance to grab lunch, use established bathroom facilities, and say bye to trip attendees before returning to wherever you call home.
