About the event
Join Team Overland for a trip to the Oregon Dunes!
Team Overland will host a campout for Veterans, their families, and Kick-Ass Military supporters at Bullrun OHV Staging and Sand Camping Area in North Bend, Oregon. The coordinates for the meet-up location are 43.45265, -124.26869. We will have our team at the staging area at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 23rd, to meet everyone and discuss the trip details. There is a paved parking lot at the Bullrun OHV Staging area that offers a place to air down your tires and use an outhouse-style bathroom. The reserved campsite is only about 2 kilometers north of the staging area on the dune. Once the group meets our team, we will show everyone where the campsite is and offer everyone time to establish their camps. At 3:00 PM Team Overland Trail Guides and Volunteers will fire up the grill and provide Bratwurst Dogs with sides for everyone. We will also have plant-based options available. Lunch BBQ will end at 5:00 PM, and guests will have time to explore the dunes or hang around camp. At 6:00 PM Team Overland Trail Guides will lead a guided tour of the Oregon Dunes and find a nice place to watch the sunset. We will head back to camp to light the campfire at about 8:00. Guests will have the opportunity to listen to Clinical Psychologist Dr. Jeffery Holguin lead a fireside discussion around leadership and resilience training. Dr. Holguin, a founding Board Member of Team Overland, served in the Coast Guard as an EOD Diver and Rescue Swimmer. After his service, he received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, and double Bachelors of Science in Human Biology and Health Psychology specializing in biochemistry and neuroscience of trauma. Dr. Holguin's work focuses on the understanding, assessment, and management of the biopsychosocial components of chronic pain, trauma (PTSD), resilience, disaster psychology, serious and dangerous mental illness, and psychopathy.
On Sunday, April 24th, we will conduct a campsite clean-up sweep at 10:00 and vacate the dunes camp no later than 11:00 am. Team Overland subscribes to the "Leave no Trace" principles and expects all guests to comply by leaving the area trash free.
Registration for the event will be open on Friday, April 8th at 5:00 pm (Pacific Time) for all Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and Gold Star Families. Registration for all Military Supports will be open at noon on Saturday, April 9th. If Military Supports register before noon on Saturday, they will forfeit their registration. Thank you for giving Veterans, Active-Duty, and Gold Star families preference.
Team Overland trips are family-friendly events. We encourage each guest to bring their loved ones, including their 4-legged family members. We expect every guest to be responsible for their family, including their animals. Please keep any animals who are not well behaved at home. Please use a leash when appropriate to avoid conflict with other trip participants. As a family event, we prohibit the use of all illegal drugs. Guests are strictly prohibited from operating a motor vehicle under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. Guests are expected to follow all rules and regulations for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area to include their alcohol policies. Failure to abide by the rules and Team Overland policies will prevent a person's eligibility to participate in future events. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our trips fun for all.
