About the event
Saturday, October 21st: We will Rally at the Ruch Country Store at 11:00 am. The Rally Point and the Ruch Country Store address is 7350 OR-238, Jacksonville, OR 97530. Space at the Ruch Country Store is limited for larger groups, so please park close together after filling up and parking. Please note there are no fuel pumps at the Ruch County Store. Make sure you fill up in Grants Pass or Medford, depending on where you are coming from, before heading to the Rally Point. The movement to camp will leave the Store around noon. The route to camp is a maintained gravel road with a light washboard and moderate rocky terrain. Lunch is on your own, so come prepared to have lunch on the go. We will camp at Wrangle Gap Campground in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest at 42.050254, -122.855869. It will take about 3 Hours once we leave Ruch to make it to camp, depending on our pace and how often we need to stop. Once we arrive at camp, guests are free to pick a spot and set up their tents. We will provide dinner on the first night with Hot Soup options like Chicken Noodle, Tomato Jalapeno (vegetarian options), Chili, and Cornbread. Please inform us if any dietary or other restrictions would prohibit you or a member of your group from consuming these menu options.
Wrangle Gap Snow Shelter: Wrangle Gap Snow Shelter is a rustic shelter about 20 miles southwest of Ashland. The Civilian Conservation Corps built it in 1936, and a cabin was created by the Soil Conservation Service, also in the 1930s. There is a community kitchen available and lots of picnic table seating. At a 5,500-foot elevation, it gets a good amount of snow in the winter. It has facilities that include well water, vault toilets, and tent sites. Truck camping is available on the side of the trail, and trucks may park in “Expo Style” to ensure everyone has enough room.
Sunday, October 22nd: Team Overland will serve breakfast burritos between 9:00 - 10:00 am. We will begin breaking camp and leave by 11:00 a.m. toward Talent Oregon. Team Overland subscribes to the "Leave no Trace" principles and expects all guests to comply by leaving the area trash-free. Lunch is on your own, so come prepared to have lunch on the go. The trail from Wrangle Gap to the highway takes about 2 hours, depending on pace. Some of the locals in the group can peel off and head home at their own pace, but a guide will bring the trip to regroup at the Chevron in Talent, OR at 301 W Valley View Rd, Talent, OR 97540, around 1:00 on Sunday, October 22nd. This will be an excellent chance to fill up and use established bathroom facilities and say bye to trip attendees before returning to wherever you call home.
